National Parks Web, Improving Public Access to National Parks Websites is a report that sets out options to improve marketing of national parks via the web.

After consulting with staff and management - and considering fixed timelines - we recommended a two-phase development process.

Phase one will redirect web traffic to a temporary site with a new search interface and promotional content.

Phase two involves re-engineering existing information structures and content to implement the full design.

Project outcomes include:

  • Increased levels of information retrieval, public inquiries and email referral from website visitors.
  • Compliance with relevant legislation, disability access and State Government Web Development Standards.
  • Compliance with DEH visual brand identity.
  • Reduced levels of technical complexity and management overhead.
  • Better value from investment in content management technology.

The report contains:

  • A detailed analysis of navigation structures and information design.
  • Strategies to improve useability.
  • A new visual design concept including a task-based navigation structure.
  • New features to present existing database content.
